Faella ...

Why haven't you written? I've been practically climbing the walls, wondering what -- was it her? Shadda? What's happening?
phoenixwings: (Default)
[Filter: Aes, in Atsirian]

All right. I asked! And -- the good news is that she said yes! And I asked her through the journals specifically so if she laughed I wouldn't know. So. There's that.

The bad news is that I think she may have only agreed to annoy the Karnachs, but ... well, a yes is a yes. Right?
phoenixwings: (this feeling has to end)
[Filter: Felizia, in Atsirian]

I can't be certain if Raezi said anything to you or not, so I apologize if this is redundant information, but -- Shadda and I have recently called things off. In fact, she's left Razen entirely, which ought to give you some indication of how thorough and permanent this split actually is.

Which has left me with a bit of a problem in regards to Friday's event.

So, I realize this is terribly short notice -- and strange, but if Aes can get away with proposing on the journals, then I think I should be allowed this much!

Would you like to accompany me to the grand ball, Felizia?
phoenixwings: (you're nothing but lonely)
[Filter: Aes, in Atsirian]

Shadda won't be coming to the grand ball.

We had a monstrous, ridiculous fight that had probably been due to happen for months, and she actually decided she would rather go back to the Cleraine cathedral than attend a grand ball with or without me, which should give you some indication of how thoroughly unpleasant all of this was and why I don't really wish to talk about it in great detail.

So now you know.
phoenixwings: (the world it tears you limb from limb)
[Filter: Aes, in Atsirian]

How was Lady Megan? I've heard so little, and I know you were so determined to see her.
phoenixwings: (the world it tears you limb from limb)
[Filter: Private, in Atsirian]

Not Firuz, clearly, and now this?

This is exactly the pattern we were meant to be investigating. That I thought ...

Hn. Protection, yes, I'm quite sure.

[Filter: Prince Reeve, in Atsirian]

Which was she? Lady Zaefira. Pillar or Messenger? I am assuming that keeping us informed merely slipped your mind, my Prince. Understandable. There is so much on all our minds.
phoenixwings: (waking up holding your breath)
[Filter: Private, in Atsirian]

Hn.

There is no lack of work to occupy you, stupid girl. Samples for Naelene. I must find a way to have Urian watched, discover who he confides in. I know he had some hand in this, if he did not mastermind it from the start. Vaelda Eshene. Felizia and Mother are both right. Raezi. I do hope Felizia knows what she is doing. Aes. People are terrorizing her, and since I cannot silence them all immediately -- really, if only I could think of some way to be in five places at once. I hate that so much is happening and I cannot observe it all firsthand.

But still, I think -- what is he playing at. Why would he write to you? There is some game he is planning, or he would never bother.

Or was it only exactly what it seemed to be? Pathetic gloating.

We were never friends. How dare he say such a thing, when he knows perfectly well that his involvement was never genuine in the least, and --

Stupid girl.

This is why Shadda hates you.

Lord Firuz has something he wishes to say to you all.

Don't you, Firuz? Come now. Haven't I made myself clear? You'll want to be quick.
phoenixwings: (the world it tears you limb from limb)
[Filter: Private, in Atsirian]

They may not know why I'm asking them, but they'll obey. For their Faedya, they will obey and keep quiet about it, I think -- I hope. The last thing I need him to know is who is setting watchers on him.

I wish that I could follow him, myself.

Hn. But even if that does not work, the sentries posted in Raezi's old quarters will know what they are looking for. If we could get a description, something, anything.

I will not let them have Raezi. Especially not him.
phoenixwings: (the world it tears you limb from limb)
[Filter: Private, in Atsirian]

Where is he?

Vaelda doesn't know. Surely not. If she does, she's a much better liar than she has any right to be. She seems genuinely shocked at his absence, which means whatever he is doing wasn't planned. At least -- not well planned, for surely he wouldn't have arranged to miss the Queen's birthday celebration. Especially not without informing his sister. This is an embarrassment to her. How can she be trusted with authority over Atsiria when she so clearly lacks authority over her own household?

Hm.

I don't like this at all. I can hardly just excuse myself from this. And where would I even start looking ...

[Filter: Public, in Atsirian]

I don't suppose anyone has heard from Firuz at all. Poor Vaelda looks so worried. I feel so terribly for her.
phoenixwings: (you'd better come up for air)
[Filter: Private, in Atsirian]

One thing is certain ... he wasn't ill. Vaelda has no reason to lie about that. And if he is hiding something so secret even she must be kept from it ...

But where did he go? Not home. I need to find some way to have him watched.
phoenixwings: (the world it tears you limb from limb)
[Filter: The Goddess Church, in Atsirian]

I think it's a terrible mistake. Who knows what complications the Prince will set about, now?

We all knew some decision would be made on this soon, but I never expected her to simply release him.
phoenixwings: (it eats you up alive)
[Filter: Aes, in Atsirian]

I sent out some inquiries about Firuz, after Vaelda was there at your party, and he wasn't -- do you know what I heard?

That Vaelda intends to sit the Council for Kevan, instead of Firuz. She's ordered him to stay at home. Do you think she's told him not to write, as well?

I have to admit ... I'm a bit impressed. It's been long overdue.

[Filter: Felizia, in Atsirian]

Felizia ... I know you must be very busy preparing for your event, tomorrow, but -- if you have a moment, there is something important I'd like to discuss.

[pause]

It's -- it concerns Raezi's condition.
phoenixwings: (this is not some paradise)
[Filter: Mother, in Atsirian]

Mother, I was thinking ...

If Felizia knows the truth of all of this regardless -- perhaps we should ask her to start these rumours. It will seem more authentic. After all, it would be in our best interest to downplay the severity of Raezi's condition as much as possible. Perhaps Felizia could visit, and in the aftermath, begin the talk on just how much we have glossed over in our attempts to make the situation seem less dire. Make it clear that Raezi's condition has become so critical.

This then would force our hand, wouldn't it? We we could introduce the idea of hiring the surgeons as you suggested, soon after.

[Filter: Queen Edalene, in Atsirian]

Your Majesty.

I have overheard some information that I feel you should know. It concerns this affair at the Karnach estate, on Sunday ... you know that Lady Westa will be in attendance.

Assuming that Prince Reeve is not present, as well, I understand that she intends to publicly address the issue, accusing you of misleading the people in regards to the Prince's involvement with Karia's capture. She has some wild theory that my Mother was involved, which as we both surely know is untrue. In any case, she will likely demand the reason that the Prince is present imprisoned ... or demand proof that he is not.

You know I am no friend to Lady Westa. I would rather not see her catch you unprepared. Only she would be petty enough to turn a pleasant, light-hearted affair -- a family affair, for you -- into some twisted political scheme.
phoenixwings: (the world it tears you limb from limb)
[Filter: Private, in Atsirian]

Yes, we all know that you have the Queen's ear, you insufferable child. I'm certain her Majesty would say and her Majesty said to me and yes, we know, you share her confidence and you share her bed and she loves you most of all. I don't care. Everyone knows what a terrible mistake it is, and the only reason we don't say so is because it's political suicide. No one likes House Atsir, and no one likes you, and you're unfathomably lucky that the Queen puts up with your insubordination -- for now. But not forever. Just look at what she's done with the Prince.

Maybe she'll do the same to you, after she's had her daughters and you've served your purpose.

So you can stop giving me those smug little smirks. The Queen hates your sister and your city and one day, she'll hate you, too.

[Filter: Aes, in Atsirian]

I don't know what it is about this morning, but I can't seem to stay focused at all. Did it seem too warm in the chamber, to you?

If you're not busy after this afternoon's session, I thought we could -- oh, I don't know. Go out. I'm hardly in a hurry to go back to The vendors in the Arcade are putting out their new summer dresses! And we do have that event at the Karnach estate, later this week.
phoenixwings: (sit and wait for the world to fall)
[Filter: Private, in Atsirian]

He is not playing innocent games. How can she not see? He undermines her every time he opens his mouth, or puts his pen to paper.

And Lady Westa

I will make her see.

If he thinks he can placate me with this conversion ... I am not so easily dismissed. And I will make it so that Aes is not, either. It is beyond foolish of her to laugh and dismiss these insults without a second thought.
phoenixwings: (the world it tears you limb from limb)
[Filter: Private, in Atsirian]

There. I doubt an unsigned letter bearing such cryptic remarks will be given any heed, but ...

She says it was a personal favor, but I cannot help but think it was more than that. I remember that woman. Far too proud to beg favors unless the circumstances were dire, indeed.

... And one of Lord Lawrence's most trusted companions, besides.

Perhaps Mother will be able to discern something. I certainly can't make anything useful of it.

Did you know that Enoch has been asking after you just about every day, since Rose Day?

I don't know what to think. I guess it's true what they say. Those Megami men are desperate for a proper woman to look after them, aren't they?

You seemed ... better, during Felizia's visit? I wonder if What shall I tell Enoch, on your behalf?

-- Something is happening.

Mother saw her writing first. She came into the sitting room, smooth as silk, and made it obvious what had happened -- that Karia had written again. We made concerned noises at each other, watching Reidyn ...

He excused himself minutes later to the washroom, and when he returned, explained that he was suddenly unwell and begged our leave to reschedule.

I'm following now.

Raezi is one of those, isn't she? A ... Messenger. Just as James is.
